I just love finding new books by indie authors. So when I saw this book on another blog and read it's synopsis, I was incredibly intrigued and it was pretty much calling my name. Well Michelle Gross has a new fan girl on board because this book was spectacular. It's dark, romantic, suspenseful, and mystical. Just what I love about my books, and what's even better is that it's a freaking series.
Melanie Rose is almost your average teenage girl, well except for the fact that she can see spirits. Thanks to a terrifying encounter with a supernatural creature who marked her as a child. I found Melanie to be very bold and courageous, especially when it cam to her family and friends. I like having her voice narrating the story.
Just when things can't get any stranger in comes in Killian or rather the Grim Reaper. Who knew that death himself could be so attractive. He is handsome, mysterious, and can be quite intimidating, but he's also protective and charming. I loved the relationship that develops between Melanie and Killian and I was definitely rooting for them. Of course things aren't easy for these two and all hell tends to break loose quite literally. It kept me turning the pages to see what would happen, not to mention the little twist that Michelle adds in the end. It has me completely ready for book two.

Melanie met the monster she feared most and survived—but at a cost.
A life was lost. And one became two.
Now that Killian was no longer Grim Reaper, he was back to being an incubus demon. And if waiting for demons to attack weren’t enough on a girl, being around him while his pheromones were slipping—planting dirty thoughts inside her head—was enough to make anyone question their sanity.
But her dirty mind and trying to stay alive weren’t the only thing she had to worry about. The Vessel had awakened inside her. She needed to figure out what it was and why there was suddenly a voice inside her head.
Soon, Melanie was questioning everything, wondering… all the while spiraling down a path toward Grim and Killian, discovering her own feelings.
Then came the question: What if they were wrong about the Vessel?
Words cannot express how much I needed this sequel in my hands! After the little cliffhanger moment that Michelle left Melanie and Killian in, I just had to know what was going to happen. Things start off on a sad note with Melanie loosing her good friend, Ryan, that was heartbreaking. But things only get crazier for her and I am not even kidding. Poor Melanie can't catch a break with most of the Underworld after her, since she is the Vessel. It's never boring in this world that Michelle created and she knows how to keep the reader on their toes. I really like that when I'm reading book.
Except the unexpected, and that's pretty much what goes on here. Killian and Grim are now two separate beings, and that means Killian returning to his normal state as an incubus demon. It makes it hard for him to be around Melanie at times, but he tries to fight his nature because he really loves her, and I could see that.
"But then I knew... you're what I've been waiting for... what I've always wanted for so long... for thousands of years..." ~ Killian
The guy has a way with words, how can that not make a girl melt. But there is also Grim, who comes to be very loyal to Melanie and it seems to have feelings for her. I was a little unsure of what to think at first, but everything was answered at the end and it makes complete sense. Thank you, Michelle! I can't wait to read book three.
